I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in Boston, MA trained in medical nutrition therapy and outpatient counseling, ready to help you make and achieve your individual goals. I am happily equipped to provide evidence-based nutrition counseling for you incorporating online and multimedia tools and resources.
I completed my dietetic internship with the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System in Los Angeles, CA, with supervised practice affiliations also at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Harbor UCLA, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. I completed my didactic program in dietetics at the University of Hawaii, where I also earned a Master's of Science in Nutrition Science, with my published thesis research in psychological models of behavior change. I am also employed as a Research Coordinator at Harvard University's TH Chan School of Public Health in the Department of Genetics and Complex Diseases, with scientists studying nutrition and disease at the molecular level.
Prior to my career in nutrition, I obtained a bachelor's degree in Communication from the University of Southern California in 2005 and spent 5 years working in entertainment media in Los Angeles. Working for the mobile division of the worlds' largest gaming company unveiled the fabulous potential of online and smartphone-based access to medical services and health information.
I grew up as a competitive swimmer in Houston, TX and went on to compete with the USC Trojans. I embraced the benefits of good sports nutrition practices, with food and hydration being key training elements and tools for recovery in my swimming career.
In addition to understanding nutrition as fuel for sport, I have learned firsthand the importance of nutrition for health, when about 10 years ago I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I interned as a researcher at the Cedars-Sinai F. Widjaja Foundation Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute in Los Angeles, focusing on the interrelatedness of nutrition, disease, and the gut microbiome.
I am always reading, always learning, and love staying up to date on the latest nutrition research. Some of my other research interests are in smartphone-based apps in the clinical setting, nutrition for the endurance athlete, and nutrition and mental health.
During my downtime, I enjoy cooking, reading mystery thrillers, running with the Heartbreak Hill Running Club, and exploring the sights and tastes of Boston with my husband and our 2 amazing dogs.
That's a little about me. Now I'm looking forward to learning a lot about YOU!
